What you need to know about Tournament General Liability Insurance from LIO Insurance now available on PickleballTournaments.com
Procuring general liability insurance is an important part of a tournament directors (TDs) playbook when preparing to run a pickleball tournament. This provides liability coverage for the TD, tournament staff, and volunteers for the normal activities associated with setting up, running and tearing down a tournament. Additionally, most public and private venues/facilities require TDs to provide liability insurance that covers the facility that is hosting the tournament. This is often a daunting process for a TD to navigate in order to ensure that the correct breadth and level of coverage is procured. This is why we have partnered with LIO Insurance.
As a special benefit to our TDs running tournaments on PickleballTournaments.com, TDs can purchase pre-approved tournament insurance coverage that meets their needs directly in your tournament’s dashboard.

FAQ for LIO Insurance General Liability Insurance Offer
Q: Why do I need Liability Insurance for my Pickleball Tournament?
A: LIO’s Liability Insurance Offer for Pickleball Tournaments protects your tournament and the individuals working on behalf of your tournament from claims of negligence when someone gets injured during the event. Additionally, you may need to show proof of insurance to the owner of your venue, or you may need to name that venue owner as an Additional insured.
Q: What is an “Additional Insured?”
A: An Additional Insured is an entity that is added to an insurance policy and that receives liability protection from the policy holder. It is common for the owner of a facility, public or private, to request to be added as an Additional Insured before that owner will allow an organization to run an event or perform an operation on their premises.
Q: How do I know what specific insurance requirements I need to fulfill? A: Most venue owners will include their insurance requirements in the facility use contract.
A review of those requirements will help determine which level of insurance, Gold or Platinum, will suit your tournament best.
Q: Why are there two different offers, Gold and Platinum?
A: Different venue owners require different limits and coverages. LIO has attempted to make buying pickleball tournament insurance easy by anticipating these differences. The Gold offer will satisfy most basic insurance requirements, while the Platinum offer will satisfy most risk managers seeking more robust requirements.
Q: Can I mix and match limits within the Gold and Platinum Offers?
A: No. Those levels are set as coverage packages to respond best to historical requests from venue owners. We believe these two offers are complete, and both are priced competitively.
Q: What if my tournament needs to cancel due to inclement weather?
A: If you cancel your tournament before it begins, LIO will refund your premium or change the dates of the policy to coincide with your rain date. If you play part of your tournament, or if you do not cancel ahead of time, the premium is fully earned and cannot be refunded.
Q: What should I use for my Policy Effective Date?
A: Use the first day when activity will be occurring at the venues (setup and preparation).
Q: What should I use for my Policy Expiration Date?
A: Use the day AFTER the last day of activity has been completed (including teardown/clean-up). Example: If you have finished cleaning up and the crew completes the tournament tear-down on 7/8/24, your Policy Expiration Date should be 7/9/24 (insurance policies expire at 12:01am on the expiration date).
Q: What if I don't know exactly how many participants are going to attend my Pickleball Tournament?
A: Use your best guess. If the final number is wildly different, contact us and we can discuss if any changes need to be made.
Q: Should I use a liability waiver to protect my tournament against frivolous lawsuits?
A: Yes. It is a wise and common practice to have participants sign a liability waiver to ensure that you have the best possible defense against an accusation of liability for a mishap at your tournament.
