*ATTENTION* As many people know, Albert Oakland Park has been undergoing reconstruction of its pickleball courts. It is quite exciting for the City of Columbia, MO to soon have 16 dedicated pickleball courts available for play.
With any major project, there can be unforeseen delays. We are happy to share that the 10 newly dedicated pickleball courts are currently about 80% completed.
We also want to let everyone know that the new courts may not be fully completed in time for the tournament. This means the courts could still be lacking the final coat of color and finishing touches, but are playable.
The current physical status is each new court is on new concrete, individually fenced (just like the lower 6 dedicated courts), and with permanent posts and nets. It’s the final coating of color and lines that are not completed. We will have lines taped on each court. It’s a great improvement from years past and quite excited to playing on the total of 16 dedicated outdoor individually fenced in pickleball courts. Albert Oakland Park is one of few parks that have increased the number of dedicated pickleball courts in the state of Missouri.
The Show Me Games Executive Director, some members of the Show Me Pickleball Club, and Tournament Director have been discussing whether to proceed at Albert Oakland Park as planned or move the event to another venue. After careful consideration, it has been mutually agreed to maintain the pickleball tournament at Albert Oakland Park.
We appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and continued excitement as we look forward to this great event and the future of pickleball in Columbia!
