As part of our commitment to enhancing the player experience, the 2024 RMC will use a modified Round-Robin playing format. The RR format ensures players an increase in the guaranteed number of matches and reduced wait time between matches. The following summarizes how the events will be run.
BRACKETS WITH SIX OR FEWER TEAMS
Teams will play in a round-robin format.
BRACKETS WITH SEVEN OR MORE TEAMS:
Teams will be divided into pools and compete in a round-robin format. Each team plays one game, to 15 (win by 2), against the other teams in that pool.
HEAD TO HEAD TIEBREAKER (IFP):
First tie-breaker: head-head matches won
The Rocky Mountain Championships is pleased to again include the Team Challenge competition. In an expanded format, the event will include additional groups and a cash prize purse. Teams will include four players (2 men/ 2 women) and requires that each player is registered in the tournament. The team brackets will include two age groups: 18 to 59 and 60 plus. Each age group will include three skill levels: 3.0 to 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5/Open. Players on a team must be within the bracket's age/skill limits. Players may play up in skill level and down in age. When registering, please double-check that you are registering in your correct skill and age group. The Team Challenge events are being scheduled as late-afternoon/evening events and will likely be played under the lights. These events will not affect the player's PBR (Pickleball Brackets Rating). Team Challenge Registration Note: Due to the Pickleball Bracket's software platform not yet being able to accommodate team events, we are implementing a unique registration format/process for the RMC Team Challenge. Two events are listed in each age and skill level group; one is a "Captains Only," and the other "Team Members."
A team's Captain will register using the "Captains Only" event, while the other three players will register in the "Team Members" event. The Captain is responsible for notifying the tournament of his team's name and players.

We have created Facebook posts to help players looking for partners find each other more easily.
What does it mean to be registered?
- Player in a singles event has registered and paid their tournament fees by the payment deadline
- Player in a doubles event; both players have registered and both players have paid their tournament fees by the payment deadline
You or your team could be moved to the waitlist: (see the following items)
- If your partner (doubles) has not registered/paid by the May 4, 2024 payment deadline
- Contract to play is between players and it is their responsibility to comply with the tournament requirements to participate as stated above - player responsibility
Playing in Events:
Brackets will be filled on a first come basis.
After registration is closed, any registered player losing a partner must replace that partner with an already registered player. The replacement partner must be in the same skill/age group that you are scheduled to play. Players can play down in age and up in skill. Replacements need to be known and communicated to the registration coordinator, Robin Weaver at rgweaver56@gmail.com by 6pm the day before you are scheduled to play. Replacements can be found on the players needing partners list.
The 2024 RMC policy regarding match officiating recognizes and combines the importance of player experience and the logistics of efficiently utilizing the tournament's officiating team. Professional, alert, and rested Referees are as crucial as any other element in a well-run tournament. The tournament's responsibility is to provide its players with officiating based on these criteria. While appreciating the significance of match officiating, it represents one of many factors critical to ensuring an optimal tournament experience.
The Operations and Referee Coordinators will make every effort during the 2024 RMC to ensure that all medal matches are officiated. However, this may not be possible or in the player's best interest under certain unforeseen circumstances. The process of determining referee coverage during the RMC is based on two key factors: the availability of referees and the significance of the match (such as a medal match). Except for the medal matches, the court assignment/scheduling priorities will limit the time players wait between matches while maximizing the usage of available courts and available Referees. If, when a match is being assigned to a court, the Referee Coordinator determines that a referee is available and not required for an upcoming medal match, he and the Operations Coordinator may elect to have the match officiated.
The RMC continues to focus on player experience and maintaining its role as the region's premier pickleball tournament. We hope the preceding illustrates this and look forward to welcoming you to the 2024 Rocky Mountain Championships.
