The Red Deer Pickleball Club is pleased to host the Pickleball Alberta Provincial Championships August 10-13, 2023 and it will be played outdoors on 20 courts in Red Deer, Alberta. We are planning the tournament brackets to be setup with doubles, singles and junior brackets, and the events will be setup in age categories (depending on the number of registrations). Events will include age categories from junior (18 and under) to 70+, with skill level competitions 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and open (open events are restricted to players of 4.5 or greater tournament rating).

When registering for doubles events, one player on the team must have a current rating that matches the bracket level, while the second player can be rated one level below the bracket level (i.e.: 4.0 brackets must have at least one player with a current rating of 4.0, the second player can be rated 3.5, but no lower). Players with ratings lower than one rating below the bracket will not be allowed to play in that bracket (i.e.: players rated 3.0 will not be allowed to play in 4.0 bracket). Players or teams will not be allowed to play down a level. It is expected that, at least one player has to be in the age category of the bracket; however, an older player can play in a younger age category as determined by the tournament director.

The 2023 Pickleball Alberta Provincial Championships are open to all Alberta residents who are members of both Pickleball Alberta and Pickleball Canada, and have a valid Alberta birth certificate with picture ID or current Alberta driver's license (as required by Pickleball Alberta). If players do not have the proper credentials with them when checking in at the tournament desk, they will not be allowed to play in the tournament. Players are required to provide their Alberta identification each day they check in. If players do not have the proper credentials with them when checking in, they will not be allowed to play in the tournament.

The entry fee is $75, plus $15 for each event entered and registrations will open May 10, 2023, at 7PM. A registration is considered complete when the team is complete and paid in full. For doubles events both players must register within 7 days of the first player's registration, or the team will be moved to the waitlist.

Events will be double elimination, with each match being best 2 out of 3 games to 11 on the “A” side of the draw. On the “B” side of the draw each match will consist of one game to 15. Both “A” and “B” side draws are win by 2 with no cap, and players are guaranteed three games. Our goal will be a minimum bracket size of eight teams and medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each bracket. Brackets may be combined as determined by the tournament director (if brackets are combined, only one set of medals will be awarded). If bracket numbers result in less than 8 teams, Round Robin Draws may be utilized. Each Round Robin match will typically consist of one game to 15 points (win by 2). Round Robin results will determine the gold/silver and bronze final matches. Gold/Silver round robin matches will be best 2 out of 3 games to 11, Bronze medal matches will be one game to 15 (win by 2)

Referees - As per usual , snacks will be available all day and lunch will be provided. Please remember to bring your own water bottle to be refilled as needed.

• We are using Onix Durafast 40 balls

• Participants are required to enter at the highest of their current Pickleball Brackets CTPR skill rating as of the date of registration (please note that one team member must of the age and/or skill level for the bracket you are registering in). If your rating changes after you register for the Pickleball Alberta Provincials Championships, you will remain in the category you have registered in. If you are not rated, consult with other players and visit the Pickleball Canada website for self-rating.

• Seeding will be identified by CTPR ratings and the Tournament Director.

• Players may enter a maximum of 3 events and may only enter once in women’s or men’s doubles, once a singles event and once in a mixed doubles event.

• Enter as a team or look under “Players Needing a Partner” to find a partner.

• In the case of waitlists, in doubles events, complete teams will take priority over individuals.

• The tournament will utilize Level 1, Level 2 and certified Referees. Volunteer referees with the appropriate training are also encouraged to referee (current market rates will be paid).

• The only way to register for the tournament is online Pickleball Brackets.com. You must have an account set up with Pickleball Brackets, if you do not, you must create one prior to registering in tournament.

• When entering your partner information, you will be prompted to search to confirm they have a Pickleball Brackets account. If they do not have an account, you will be prompted to enter their name and an email address for them. Ensure you use the valid email your partner will use to set up their Pickleball Brackets account.

• Online waiver acceptance will be utilized. Waiver can be reviewed by downloading it.

• The only way to pay is online through Pickleball Brackets.

• The tournament director reserves the right to modify the events, and schedule as needed pending weather, and other outside influences beyond our control. This tournament will follow USAPA Rulebook 2023 International Edition, and we are currently applying to sanction this tournament with Pickleball Canada.

• Player requested withdrawals will be accepted until July 10, 2023 with a full refund less a $10 administration fee.

• After July 10, 2023, refunds will not be provided, unless otherwise determined by the tournament director.
