Events will include age categories from junior (18 and under) to 70+, with skill level competitions 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and open (open events are restricted to players of 4.5 or greater tournament rating).
Should both players choose to, they may play up ONLY a 0.5 rating level from their current CTPR. The only exception is for Open events, where all players must have a minimum 4.5 CTPR rating to play in that event. Tournament (i.e.: players rated 3.0 will not be allowed to play in 4.0 bracket). Players or teams will not be allowed to play down a level. (ie: 3 .5 player cannot play 3.0)
The 2024 Pickleball Alberta Provincial Championships are open to all Alberta residents who are members of both Pickleball Alberta and Pickleball Canada, and have a valid Alberta birth certificate with picture ID or current Alberta driver's license (as required by Pickleball Alberta). Players are required to provide their Alberta identification each day they check in. The entry fee is $95 per player. Each event will be $15. All registrations will include a player gift bag, and a ticket to the Saturday evening social event generously sponsored by Boston Pizza who will be providing the meal for all players (pizza, pasta, and salad with vegetarian and gluten-free options). Registrations will open April 15, 2024, at 12PM. A registration is considered complete when the team is complete and paid in full. For doubles events both players must register within 7 days of the first player's registration, or the team will be moved to the waitlist.
Events will be double elimination, with each match being best 2 out of 3 games to 11 on the “A” side of the draw. On the “B” side of the draw each match will consist of one game to 15. Both “A” and “B” side draws are win by 2 with no cap, and players are guaranteed three games. Singles games may have one game to 15 win by 2 no cap on both the "A" and "B" side. Our goal will be a minimum bracket size of eight teams and medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each bracket. Brackets may be combined as determined by the tournament director (if brackets are combined, only one set of medals will be awarded). If bracket numbers result in less than 5 teams, Round Robin Draws may be utilized. Each Round Robin match will typically consist of one game to 15 points (win by 2). Round Robin results will determine the gold/silver and bronze final matches. Gold/Silver round robin matches will be best 2 out of 3 games to 11, Bronze medal matches will be one game to 15 (win by 2). The Tournament Director or Tournament Desk may have to combine age or skill to fill event brackets.

PCO policy on the use of CTPR must be followed for all Sanctioned Tournaments. Should both players choose to, they may play up ONLY a 0.5 rating level from their current CTPR. The only exception is for 4.5+ or Open events, where all players must have a minimum 4.5 CTPR rating to play in that event. Tournament Directors will ensure this policy is adhered to.
If a tournament has a 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0(Open) event, a 4.0 player can play up into the 4.5 event but not into the 5.0/Open event. 5.0/Open events are for 4.5 and above skill level players only.
If a tournament has a 4.0 and 4.5+ event without a 5.0/Open event, a 4.0 player cannot play up into the 4.5+ event as it is for 4.5 and higher skill players only. In this case, the 4.5+ event acts in the same way as the Open.
Open Category – is only open to advanced players with a minimum skill level of 4.5. It is acceptable to substitute “5.0” terminology instead of “Open” if tournament directors choose to
