1) PLAYER RESPONSIBILITY & ASSUMPTION OF RISK
Pickleball is a physical sport and involves risk of injury including (but not limited to) slips, trips, falls, collisions, strains, sprains, heat illness, and equipment-related injuries.
By entering and/or participating in this event, each participant:
- acknowledges they are participating voluntarily
- confirms they are medically fit to play
- accepts full responsibility for their own actions and wellbeing
- assumes all risks associated with playing and being present at the venue
2) RELEASE OF LIABILITY
To the maximum extent permitted by law, each participant agrees to release and hold harmless:
- the Tournament Organiser
- Buderim Pickleball & Tennis Club Inc. (or event operator)
- venue owners/managers and associated staff/volunteers
- event sponsors and partners
from any and all claims, liabilities, loss, damage, injury, illness or death arising from participation in the event, including during warm-up, matches, spectating, or movement around courts.
3) PERSONAL INSURANCE & MEDICAL COSTS
Participants are responsible for:
- their own personal insurance (including sports cover if desired)
- all medical costs arising from injury or illness
- their own medication (asthma puffers, EpiPen, etc.)
4) FIRST AID & EMERGENCY RESPONSE
- First aid will be basic only (if available).
- In an emergency, the organiser may call 000 or seek assistance.
- Participants consent to receiving emergency assistance where required.
5) HEAT, HYDRATION & SUN SAFETY (QUEENSLAND CONDITIONS)
Players must:
- bring and drink adequate water
- use sunscreen and hats between games
- monitor themselves for heat stress (dizziness, nausea, headache)
- stop play immediately if unwell
The organiser may delay, modify or suspend matches due to extreme weather or safety risk.
6) COURT & VENUE SAFETY RULES (MANDATORY)
- Appropriate footwear must be worn (court shoes recommended)
- No bare feet or unsafe footwear permitted
- No alcohol or intoxicated play permitted
- Players must be respectful and avoid dangerous play
- Warm up properly before matches
- Report hazards immediately (wet surface, debris, broken equipment)
If a player acts unsafely, the organiser may remove them from play.
7) EQUIPMENT & PERSONAL PROPERTY
Players are responsible for their own paddles, gear and valuables.
The organiser is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
8) PHOTOGRAPHY / MEDIA
Participants may be photographed or filmed for event promotion.
If you do not wish to appear in photos/videos, notify the organiser before play begins.
9) AGREEMENT
By registering, attending, or playing, participants confirm they have read, understood, and agreed to this Health & Safety Protocol and Participant Waiver.
