DC DPR presents the 2023 Spring Paddle Battle
The Washington DC Pickleball club (WDCP) is collaborating with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to offer DC resident pickleball players the opportunity to participate in weekly league play beginning Sunday, March 12 and ending with playoffs on April 23. There will be no games on Easter Sunday, April 9. This team league play is new for DC pickleball, and it’s offered in response to many requests that we’ve received recently for team league competition. Here’s how it will work.
• Three types of competition, Mixed Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Men’s Doubles
• Within each competition type there will be three skill levels, Advanced Beginners (rated 2.5 and below), Intermediates (rated above 2.5 but below 3.5), and Advanced (3.5 and above).
• Each competition bracket (e.g., competition type and skill level) will have up to six teams competing in a round robin format each Sunday with all teams in a bracket proceeding to the seeded playoffs on April 23. Each team’s competitor will change each week.
• Each team may have up to six players but must have a minimum of four players, two of whom will play on each Sunday of competition. All players on a team must compete in at least one week of the round robin Sunday games. A few courts will be reserved each week for recreational play by the team members who are not officially competing that day.
• Women’s Doubles will occur between 2 and 3 pm each Sunday, Mixed Doubles between 3 and 4 each Sunday, and Men’s Doubles between 4 and 5 each Sunday. All games will be played on the courts at Turkey Thicket, both dedicated and the hybrid lined tennis courts.
• Matches will be best two out of three with games to 11, win by 2. Rally scoring (you can score regardless of whether your team is serving) will be used if needed to complete play in one hour.
• All members of the winning team in each bracket will receive medals on April 23.
This event is for DC residents only. There is no online registration. Use the Contact Tourney link above to inquire about the registration process.
