Welcome to Athens Country Club’s 1st "Dinko De Mayo" Pickleball Tournament. The tournament will be held at Athens Country Club (ACC) in Athens, Georgia. Athens is also known as “The Classic City” and is home to the UGA Bulldogs. ACC will have six new pickleball courts with an additional twelve courts consisting of temporary nets and permanent lines.

Saturday May 4th, 2024 Mixed DoubleS

Sunday May 5th, 2024 Men's Doubles

Competition each day may begin as early as 8:00 AM. Specific start times for each event will be posted and emailed to players approximately two days prior to the event. The schedule may be emailed sooner...but changes are possible and players should plan to be ready to start at a different start time (same day). Your team will compete against every other team in your specific bracket/pool. Weather can always become a factor in outdoor venues, including traveling for out of town players. Remember to check your email, texts and the PB tournament site to make sure that your bracket times and details have not changed due to changes in team numbers.

The Format for this tournament is Round Robin.

Brackets of 3 teams: Double Round Robin. Each match will be one game to 15, win by 1. No medal round.

Brackets of 4 teams: Double Round Robin. Each match will be one game to 11 win by 1. No medal round.

Brackets of 5 teams: Each match will be one game to 15 win by 1. There MAY be a medal round.

Brackets of 6 or more teams will be one game to 11 win by 1. No medal round.

As registration proceeds, tournament management reserves the option to combine brackets as needed if brackets do not fill. If brackets are combined to create playable brackets, awards will be based on the combined bracket. Brackets will be combined by age if possible to avoid combining skills.

For example, If an age and skill level has several pools, the TD reserves the decision on how to divide the pools. Typically, if there are 16 teams 3.5 50-59, there will be two pools of 8, 7 games to 11, win by 1 and no medal round. Each pool will receive their own medals. If there are 10 teams of 3.5 50-59, there may be a division of 2 pools of 5 teams, with 4 games to 15 win by 1. Each pool may receive a medal or, at 3.5 skill level or higher, at the TD discretion, the line-up may also include medal matches. In the scenario above, the first place team in each pool would play for gold and silver and the second place teams would play for bronze. Attempts are made to give all teams a minimum of 4 games and/or close to 60 points.

Age groups will be added/removed as dictated by registration with the intent to keep brackets at a maximum of 8 teams, (9 in some situations) and a goal to provide at least 4 games with 15 points or approximately 55 to 60 points. Tournament directors reserve the right to change format as needed.

Skills levels include 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0.

Age groups are 19+, 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+

A team must play at the skill level of the higher rated player (or higher) and the age group of the younger player. Age is calculated as of 12/31/2024.

RATINGS

- PickleballBrackets.com ratings will be used.

- Players with a UTPR or DUPR that is higher than their Pickleballbrackets rating may be moved to the higher level at the discretion of the tournament director.

Matches are self-monitored. A referee may be on site and available if requested.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Withdrawal deadline is April 18, 2024 at 6 pm. No refunds for any reason after that date. Withdrawals prior to that date are subject to a $15 administration fee.

Inclement Weather Policy

This is an outdoor tournament. In the event of inclement weather, we will do what we can to provide a safe, playable surface. Our venue has lighting which allows some flexibility with weather. There are no refunds, credits or make up days, if the tournament is impacted by weather. There is no indoor backup plan for this tournament.
