KidSport Manitoba is a charitable program administered by Sport Manitoba that is dedicated to removing financial barriers so all kids can experience the benefits of organized sport. Through grant funding, KidSport helps cover sport registration fees for children and youth under 18 from families facing financial challenges across the province. Participation in sport provides far more than physical activity — it builds confidence, teaches teamwork, and creates lifelong memories. By supporting families who fall within the Government of Canada’s Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) guidelines, and by providing support to New Canadian families during their first two years in Canada, KidSport Manitoba works to ensure that every child has the opportunity to play, grow, and belong through sport.
In support of this mission, the Ice Breaker Open will take place May 8–10, 2026 as a competitive, open-entry pickleball tournament designed for players who want to challenge themselves and compete at a high level. Open to the public, the tournament will bring together passionate pickleball athletes in a fun, high-energy environment while offering the opportunity to compete for cash prizes and kick off the pickleball season with meaningful competition.
The Ice Breaker Open also plays an important role in supporting KidSport Manitoba’s work across the province. A portion of every tournament registration will be directed to KidSport Manitoba, with proceeds raised helping to fund sport registration grants for children in Manitoba in 2026, ensuring more kids have the chance to participate in organized sport regardless of their financial circumstances.
We at the Pickleball Club of Winnipeg are very excited to partner with KidSport on this venture and look forward to being the home of this event for years to come!
