The Sydney Winter Indoor Pickleball Tournament is a Tier 2 event hosted by Pickleball NSW and sanctioned by Pickleball Australia.
The tournament will be held over Saturday 12 July (Men's & Women's Doubles) and Sunday 13 July (Mixed doubles and para/hybrid doubles). The venue is the Hawkesbury PCYC in Windsor, a modern facility with 6 indoor basketball courts. It is approximately a 1 hour drive from the Sydney CBD. Singles is not offered at this tournament due to limited time available.
Any member of Pickleball Australia - including Pickleball NSW - can enter. To register you will also need a (free) account with Pickleballtournaments.com which requires you to enter your PAA member number via Edit Profile/Association Memberships. As a Tier 2 tournament, players can gain Australian Ranking (AR) points by entering specific events, signified by (AR) under the event title.
Registration is $60 which includes entry into one event. Each additional event costs $30, with the exception of hybrid and junior events which cost $20. Players can enter a maximum of 2 events - one per day - unless they enter in hybrid doubles events (in which a disabled player teams up with a non-disabled player), in which case they can enter 3 events. Any players wishing to play 3 events including hybrid events, click the "Contact Tourney" button on the front page of this website with details and we will arrange this for you.
It is best to register when you have an agreed partner to play with. Be proactive in finding a partner - someone who has registered also looking for a partner, or someone you know who has not registered yet.
DUPR PLAYER RATINGS
This tournament will use DUPR ratings, which are higher for the vast majority of players compared with Pickleball Brackets (PAA) ratings. The change to DUPR requires an adjustment upwards in skill levels:
3.49 and below
3.5 - 3.99
4.0 - 4.49
4.5+
Open
The tournament organiser and director reserve the right to change/merge/split skill level or age divisions or to move players into event categories different to the ones in which they entered.
DUPR TRANSITION PHASE
During the current transition phase to DUPR, players can apply to play "down" in a lower skill level, the upper limit of which is no more than 0.25 lower than the player's current DUPR. For example, a player with a rating of 3.74 can apply to play in 3.49 and under. For the application to be supported, one of two conditions must be met:
1. DUPR reliability score of less than 80%
2. No or minimal medals won in the lower skill level events in previous tournaments (or equivalent PAA skill level events).
To apply to play in a lower level, email me via the "Contact Tournament" button on the tourney website.
Be aware that in doubles events the skill level is always based on the rating of the player in the pair with the highest DUPR.
If you are in the wrong skill level, it might be a good idea to change your rating now before other events are full. The change your event, use the edit registration button on the tourney website.
Players with disabilities are encouraged to enter mainstream events (with minor rule modifications) in addition to para and/or hybrid events.
Registrations for all events close on 22 June.
