Wine Country Pickleball for All Spring Classic

Finley Community Park, 2060 West College Avenue, Santa Rosa California, 95401

Apr 11, 2024 - Apr 14, 2024

Tourney Timezone: Pacific
Description
Tue, Apr 9 Updates: Start times are now posted and accessible via the "Start Times" link.
STOP PRESS: Due to forecast rain on Saturday 4/13, all of Saturday's Mixed Doubles brackets have been relocated to Craneway Pavilion, in Richmond, a premier indoor (but with real courts) 12-court facility in a classical building on the waterfront with stunning views. Please note: more details to follow via email for Saturday players. Spectators: please plan on a $5 admission fee to watch at this venue.
Thu 4/11 UPDATE: Player Instructions email was sent 5:40pm Wed 4/10. Please READ it!
We have also just texted players in every bracket (apologies for duplication: system does not allow texting in any other way) to remind you all to read Player Instructions in advance. In doing so, we see many players have opted out of receiving texts. Not wise! Texting is how we let you know of your matches. Please amend your profile to allow receipt of texts. Thank you!
A Spring edition of our all-ages, USA Pickleball sanctioned tournament to meet the demand from competitive players in our area—we hope that another successful event will further demonstrate the need for a purpose-built, high-quality, large-scale Pickleball complex in Santa Rosa.
We are hoping to build on the ever-increasing number of referees officiating at this event. We will certainly be offering MMP Sanctioning status (with every Medal and Pre-Medal match refereed), and if able to attract enough referees and if budget allows, we will seek Full Sanctioning, with every single match refereed.
UPDATE: We are excited to announce that we will be offering this tournament as a Fully Sanctioned event with every single match refereed, a first for this region!
Early Registration ($49) closed as of January 31, 2024.
Regular Registration ($59) began February 1, 2024 and runs through April 3, 2024.
Event Fee is $15 per registered event.
Registration and event fees are per player.
Please note that PickleballBrackets.com charges an additional $5 non-refundable service fee per event with a $10 cap. This fee is directed through the software and is outside of our control.
USA Pickleball Membership valid through April 14, 2024 is required for participation in this tournament per sanctioning rules. UTPR Ratings are used by pickleballbrackets.com for tournament seeding. Please contact usapickleball.org for concerns or changes to skill rating as we do not have access to player profiles.
Please note: to cope with increasing player demand, we are adding additional capacity on Thursday afternoon to our typical schedule. Hence, a new arrangement of playing days for certain events, as follows:
Thursday PM (brackets starting at or after 12pm) - Mens Doubles 55+, Womens Doubles 55+
Friday - Womens Doubles, Mens Singles and Mini (Skinny) Singles
Saturday - Mixed Doubles
Sunday - Mens Doubles, Womens Singles and Mini (Skinny) Singles
If daily court capacity is exceeded, priority will be given for Friday and Sunday gender doubles events to players who are not also registered for a Thursday bracket.
PLEASE NOTE OUR FALL 2024 CLASSIC DATES will be Thu, Sept 12 - Sun, Sept 15, 2024.
Junior Showcase:
In order to be able to give this event more focus and the space and freedom to grow with less court time constraint, we are splitting off the Junior events to the following Saturday. Our Spring Classic Junior Showcase will be held under the umbrella name 'Bay Area Youth (BAY) Pickleball' on Saturday, April 20, from 12:30-7:30pm, using the 6 east side courts at Finley Park. We will have co-ed Doubles and Singles events, with a combination of ladder and round-robin formats designed to give youth players the most play possible.
Entry fee is just $20, with no requirement to be USAP members. The sign-up for Junior players is Junior Showcase Registration. Please help spread the word to any budding Junior players you might know!
Referee Workshop:
If you're interested in learning more about Refereeing yourself, please note we are hosting a Referee Workshop for the Bay Area, Saturday, February 17, 9:30-4:00pm, at the new Bay Padel Club, on Treasure Island, San Francisco. Workshop is free, with a materials fee of $20. Details on the sign-up form here: https://forms.gle/GVFPW2aGEWoLi2wE6. Advance signup required. Also, you must be a USAP member to take the workshop. Any questions, email Adam at orgpbplay@gmail.com.
FREE Lunch included on Friday and Sunday - for you and your on-site fans
Friday - BBQ Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, veggie burgers
Sunday - Pasta bar (meat or pesto) with Caesar salad
Saturday lunch canceled with venue change due to forecasted rain. No outside food allowed at the new location.

Additional Information
Please be assured that the format and bracket arrangements will be similar to our Fall 2023 event. In early registration, events will display in broad skill categories. We have added age breakdowns where clearly anticipated, but more will come later to follow demand. We have provisional waitlist caps on many brackets merely as a way to retain space for all ages and skills until we see exactly what the demand is during registration. If you see a waitlist for an event you want to sign up for, please do go ahead and sign up. Your date and time of registration will be logged and given priority when we get into the fine details of seeing how many teams we can accommodate for each bracket within our overall daily capacity.
Schedule Information
Please note: Bracket scheduling takes place in the week or so prior to the tournament, when we as organizers have a clearer sense of team numbers in each bracket and therefore which brackets have to start when. For planning purposes, players should assume their bracket could start as early as 12pm on Thursday / 8am Friday thru Sunday, or have an afternoon start, and that their continued progress in a bracket could make for a full day! (Don't schedule yourself to do anything else on a tournament day!)
Bracket Formats
  • 1-3 registered teams - Combined with another bracket(s)
  • 4-5 registered teams - Round Robin leading to medal rounds: 2/3 to 11 or 1 to 15 based on circumstances (ex. time, weather, age)
  • 6+ registered teams - Traditional double-elimination bracket (matches are 2/3 to 11) with a come-around bracket (matches are 1 to 15)
  • Please note: For Round-Robin events, there will most likely be a play-off where the top two teams/players will have a Gold Medal match, while the third and fourth-placed teams/players will play for Bronze. Please stay around for the play-off matches: Pool play is not the end of the bracket!
Our "Open" events are intended for our highest level players with a rating of 4.0 and above and will be set as the minimum rating for registration into these events.
Brackets may be combined based on registration numbers. Or they may be further broken up… We are supportive of the new USA Pickleball age categories for sanctioned events (eg. 30+, 40+), and will offer these if the demand allows.
Tournament directors reserve the right to modify formats as needed based on registrations. This includes the unlikely, but possible, removal of medal matches in round-robins due to darkness or other adverse scheduling factors (so play every match to win!).
Please note that a waitlisted team is not considered ready to be moved into the live event when an opening occurs unless the team has both partners registered and fully paid (no balance currently due). Priority to come off the waitlist will be given to fully registered and paid teams. Pickleballbrackets.com generates an email to the player(s) when a team is moved from the waitlist to the live event. Once a team has been moved from the waitlist into the live event, the team will be given 48 hours to complete payment of the associated registration / event fees to hold their spot. If payment is not received the team may be moved back to the waitlist and the next team in line will be moved into the live event. The Tournament Directors reserve the right to determine the best fit for each bracket when moving waitlisted teams into newly open spots.

    Refund Policy

    Cancellation Policy

    • Up thru Registration Close (Apr 3, 2024): Full Refund less $25 processing
    • After Registration Close (Apr 3, 2024): No refund
    • We are making a commitment in advance to give a Full Refund (minus a basic processing fee of $25 to offset our considerable upfront costs) in the event of on-the-weekend cancellation due to rain or unhealthy air quality. (If you are registered for multiple events and only one is impacted, then the refund would be for the event fee only.)
Please see our standing Air Quality policy for ‘Pickleball for All’ tournaments:
If the AQI > 150 we will go forward with tournament play, but we’ll happily offer a full refund (registration plus event fees) to anyone who does not feel comfortable playing in that environment. If you are registered for multiple events and only one is impacted, then the refund would be for the event fee only.
If the AQI > 200, then the tournament will be postponed until the AQI falls below 200. We will notify players via text on an hourly basis with an update as to the plan. Formats may need to be adjusted if play resumes on the same day. However, each day will run the currently scheduled brackets (ie: it is not practical for us to defer suspended play to a subsequent day.) An air quality update will be included in our final player email to be sent out in the last few days prior to the tournament.
We will be using PurpleAir.com, with the US EPA 2.5PM filter, with No Conversion (this is the most conservative way to read part per million data.). This is NOT what the government and airnow.gov use, which allow people to be out in worse air.
