Schedule Information
Please note: Bracket scheduling takes place in the week or so prior to the tournament, when we as organizers have a clearer sense of team numbers in each bracket and therefore which brackets have to start when. For planning purposes, players should assume their bracket could start as early as 8am, or have an afternoon start, and that their continued progress in a bracket could make for a long day! (Don't schedule yourself to do anything else on a tournament day!)
Bracket Formats
- 1-3 registered teams - Combined with another bracket(s)
4-5 registered teams - Round Robin leading to medal rounds: 2/3 to 11 or 1 to 15 based on circumstances (ex. time, weather, age)6+ registered teams - Traditional double-elimination bracket (matches are 2/3 to 11) with a come-around bracket (matches are 1 to 15)Please note: as we learn this new system, we are refining the tournament set-up, but please be assured that the format and bracket arrangements will be similar to our Fall event. For now, events are displaying in broad categories for simplicity of seeing what is on which date: we will, of course, be creating brackets based on age categories (of the youngest partner's age in doubles), namely 19+, 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+ (provided teams meet minimum numbers).
Please note: if an event becomes a Round-Robin, there will be a play-off where the top 2 teams/players will have a Gold Medal match, while the third and fourth-placed teams/players will play for Bronze. Please stay around for the play-off matches: Pool play is not the end of the bracket!
If an event is listed as an 'Open', then we are anticipating splitting that into separate brackets as numbers dictate. For instance, in Singles we know that there will not be enough demand for a separate bracket for every skill and every age within that skill: so some combination will be inevitable.
Regarding Friday's events (which include 60+ gender doubles, Singles, and Mini 'Skinny' Singles) please note that if you do sign up for more than one event we will endeavor to make it work, but be advised that scheduling issues may not make it possible to keep you in both events.
Brackets may be combined based on registration numbers.
Tournament directors reserve the right to modify formats as needed based on registrations.
This includes the unlikely, but possible, removal of medal matches in round-robins due to darkness or other adverse scheduling factors (so play every match to win!).
Referee Workshop
As this is an MMP sanctioned event, we will have several Certified Referees present at the tournament and are encouraging trainee refs to participate as well as learn from and shadow the experienced refs. Please note, there is a free Referee Workshop coming up on Saturday, March 11, in Santa Rosa to prepare interested trainees. We want to build a stronger presence of Certified Refs in Northern CA!
