Registration is now closed for the 6th Annual Chico Pickleball Classic presented by Wittmeier Auto Center and benefitting True North Housing Alliance. Brackets split by age and skill have been created, with the age of the youngest player determining which age bracket you and your partner were placed in. We will try to post times by Tuesday night. Please bear with us as this is not an easy task.
You should be at the courts 15 minutes prior to your start time. Sessions should start on time. If you are late by more than 10 minutes, you will forfeit your first game. We will try to make as many courts available for practice as possible. There will be no practicing on courts adjacent to tournament games being played. Please help us keep the tournament flowing.
We have a total of 8 gates to enter the courts. You will be assigned a gate when you arrive that corresponds to the specific courts assigned to your bracket. Please enter the courts and leave the courts by your assigned gate. The games will be played in a round robin format. Only after all the games in one round have been played will the next round begin.
The top two teams in each bracket after the round robin will play for gold and silver medals. The third and fourth teams in each bracket after the round robin will play for the bronze medal.
If you are in a bracket with four teams, you will play a double round robin, games to 11, win by one. If you are in a bracket of five teams, you will play a single round robin, games to 15, win by one. If you are in a bracket of six teams, you will play a single round robin, games to 12, win by one. If you are in a bracket of seven teams, you will play a single round robin, games to 11, win by one.
You will have two time outs per match (one minute each). If you need a water break, this will not count as a time out, but please don't talk to your partner during the water break. The goal is to keep you safe and hydrated.
Medal round matches will be one game to 15, win by 2.
IMPORTANT: one player from each team must sign the score sheet after your game is over. The signature means that you accept the score being reported. Scores do matter and will not be changed once they are entered unless we made the mistake.
The tournament is being run by a volunteer committee consisting of Carol Jones, Mitch Lehecka, Sue Bledsoe, Richard Gitelson, Esther Moineau, Scott Jones, Peter Straus, Preston Linderman, and Ashiah Bird.
Bring water bottles. There are two water fountains and water carafes will be provided by Pure Water Company of Chico. There will be a food truck, Duner's Dogs. I have asked if they can have a meat substitute, but have not heard back from them yet. We will also have Kona Shaved Ice, which should help when it gets hot. The Long Drink Company is providing Long Drinks (gin based citrus drink) and Sierra Nevada is providing the beer. All alcohol must be consumed in the Long Drink Garden (CARD rule). We will have someone providing massages on both days, someone doing caricatures both days, and a physical therapist present on Sunday.
We have paddles and other items worth more than $2,000 in the raffle (tickets will be available on game days). You will get your tickets and then decide which items you want to win. The drawings will be at 11 AM on Sunday. If you're not there, we will mail your item to you. There will be a silent auction with items worth more than $1,500. Bidding will end Sunday at 11 AM. If you are not present at the close of the silent auction, we will mail your items to you.
We have a great group of sponsors, please check them out on the banners. If you see them, please thank them for their support. Wittmeier Auto Center has provided incredible support both last year and this year. Other major supporters include the Long Drink Company, Climate and Energy Control, Play it Again Sports (they have new pickleball paddles and used ones), Selkirk, Knudson Drinks (Recharge) and Butte Creek Country Club, JIgsaw Health. Local support came from Live, Life, Juice, Kleen Kanteen, Nash's, the Donut Wheel, Savor Ice Cream, Mulberry Brewing Station, Pro Garage Doors, Azure Bodyworks, Tahoe Pure Water Company, Sierra Nevada, Made In Chico, and Fleet Feet (they carry K-Swiss pickleball shoes). Lessons were donated by Alex Chan and Matt Felix. Paddles were provided by Selkirk, Holbrook, Vatic Pro, Engage, and Legacy.

If you need a place to stay, we have gotten a very nice rate from DoubleTree by Hilton. Their rate will be $152 for a king or two queens and includes breakfast (and warm chocolate chip cookies). They are located about six minutes from the courts and are close to grocery stores and are just off of Highway 99. You can book Friday and/or Saturday night. Here's the link to the rooms.

There is another big event occurring in Chico (the weekend of the tournament (Wildflower Century BIcycle Ride) attracting many out of town guests so hotel rooms will fill up quickly. Any questions, contact me at rgitelson@csuchico.edu.
Ample parking is available on-site. There will be a food truck on-site each day. Shopping and restaurants are located close to the park. Pets, on leash, are allowed in the park. No alcohol is allowed in the park. Restrooms are located near the courts. This is a large park with ball fields and a play area with swings and slides for kids.
