The 7th Annual Chico Classic Pickleball Tournament, presented by Northern California Bank, will be on Saturday, April 26th (Men's and Women's doubles) and Sunday, April 27th (Mixed Doubles) at the 20th Street Park, Chico, CA. The tournament will be played on 16 permanent courts (8 courts were resurfaced in 2024).
The registration fee is $65, which includes one event. A second event costs $25. Early bird registration is discounted from January 1st to February 15th and costs $55 for one event and $25 for the second event. Players who register by April 1, 2025, will receive a tournament T-shirt. Please note that those who sign up after this date will not be assured a shirt. Don't miss out!
Net proceeds will benefit the True North Housing Alliance. In 2024, we raised $21,000 for True North after paying expenses. The tournament is run by a volunteer committee consisting of Victor Goble, Florie Kuperman, Carol Jones, Richard Gitelson, Esther Moineau, Mitch Lehecka, Scott Jones, Peter Straus, Ashiah Bird, and Preston Linderman.
Format: Final brackets will be created by age and skill levels if registration permits after registration closes. In 2024, we had 247 players, and only one event, 4.0 women's doubles, was not split into age brackets. The format will be round-robin with medal play for the four top teams in each bracket. The two top teams in each bracket will play for gold and silver, and the next two teams will play for bronze. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of four games.
Brackets must have at least 4 teams, with a maximum of 7 teams per bracket. When skill levels, such as women's 3.0, have more than seven teams, brackets will be created by age breakdowns into smaller brackets. The number and size of brackets will be determined by the number of players signed up for each skill level. If a bracket is created with four teams, the teams will play a double round robin with games to 11 (win by one). If a bracket is created with five teams, the teams will play a single round-robin of games to 15 (win by one). If a bracket is created with six teams, the teams will play a round-robin of games to 12 (win by one). If a bracket is created with seven teams, the teams will play a round-robin of games to 11 (win by one). All medal matches will be one game to 15 (win by two).
The Selkirk Pro S1 will be the exclusive official ball of the tournament.
You must sign up at the skill level of the higher-rated partner. Players with a PickleballBrackets.com rating must use that rating. Players with a DUPR rating but no PickleballBrackets.com rating must use the DUPR rating. Players with neither rating may self-rate. Ratings will be verified when registration closes. The tournament reserves the right to move players and teams between brackets. The age limit will be as of 12/31/2025.
In the case of wait lists, teams will take priority over individuals. Our goal is to accommodate as many people as the schedule allows, but we also want to have a well-rounded tournament with brackets based on skill level and age.
**** AGE NOTE: You will NOT see any age divisions when registering. Based on the registration, teams will be put in brackets based on age and skill level. For age divisions, a team must play at the age of the younger player.
This is a non-sanctioned outdoor tournament. Your bracket's start times will be announced the week of the tournament.
All start times are subject to change, and brackets might be merged or split based on event registration.
